Christopher Salmon Poetry Competition for 2024 open for entries now

Following the enormous success of last year’s competition, which attracted over 600 entries, The Christopher Salmon Foundation, in conjunction with Wirral Poetry Festival and Wirral Libraries, is pleased to announce that the Christopher Salmon Poetry Competition for 2024 will open for entries from 01/01/2024.

The annual poetry competition began in 2010 in memory of poetry loving Chris Salmon, a student at Calday Grammar School who tragically died from a rare streptococcal infection in February 2009, aged just 15.

The theme of this year’s competition is “Dream “The competition is open to people in Wirral aged 19 & under, who are in full-time education. A cash prize of £100 will be awarded to the winners in each of five age categories.

Chris’s Parents Julie and Rich Salmon said “We are absolutely delighted that the competition has grown so much in popularity and it is wonderful to be able to do something positive and creative in Christopher’s memory which captures the imagination of so many talented young people. We would like to thank everyone for their support over the last 14 years in helping us keep Christophers memory alive and making this competition such an outstanding success every year.

The Christopher Salmon Foundation was set up in 2009 and has so far raised £67,000 in Christopher’s memory.
